Perching Birds

Knitting 'Perching birds' – September 2024

Recently I made a universal knitting pattern for knitting a stereotypical bird. I didn't look at facts like having a long tail or not. And therefore also not with the body proportions of different species. For determining the colors, I was inspired by a number of beautiful birds that really exist. Which one did you get from me? Scroll through the list below. Next to each photo are the name of the bird and some links to websites with more information about the species.

Eurasian Nuthatch

Eurasian Nuthatch

Sitta europaea

The nuthatch is primarily a resident bird. Its range covers large parts of Europe, northwestern Africa, and parts of Asia, primarily the south and southeast, extending to Japan. In Europe, the species is absent only in Ireland and Scotland. In Scandinavia, there has been a strong northward expansion in the 21st century.

In Europe its northern border runs through southern Sweden, about the latitude of Stockholm, and southern Finland, but it has occasionally been recorded as far south-west as Iceland. In Belgium and the Netherlands it is regularly observed as a breeding and resident bird. It occasionally migrates away in winter.
